Your Instructor
In this course, dyeing expert Sian Cornish takes you on a journey into the world of natural pigments and plant-based colour. You’ll discover where dyes come from - plants, trees, fungi.
Sian Cornish is a visual artist and creative director of botanical dyeing studio Lancaster & Cornish. With a rich family history in textiles - coming from a line of cotton weavers and silk sellers - Sian has held a fascination for fabric and natural science since childhood, studying Geology at Oxford before embarking on a career in natural dyeing. Sian experiments with colour, plants and pigments to create work that is inspired by the beautiful land and seascapes of Cornwall, echoing the palette of the changing seasons and weather. Using a combination of ancient and contemporary natural plant recipes, Sian creates beautiful natural dyes and silk ribbons in the colours of the landscape flora, and collaborates on projects with academics and leading creatives - from top florists to event organisers - around the world.
